Contains photographs of the following military unit: 199th Light Infantry Brigade, 9th Infantry Division. General description of the collection: The Franklin M. Davis, Jr., photograph collection consists primarily of the Vietnam service of General Davis's tenure as commander of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in 1967 and 1968. Some forty photos cover the Tet Offensive of January 1968. A series of color prints show the defense of Saigon in July and August 1968. An oversize album covers the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 9th Infantry Division which took place in Vietnam. There are also photos of the inactivation ceremony of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning in 1970 and of the dedication of a monument to the 101st Airborne Division in 1977.

Historical note: The First Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division was sent to Vietnam in 1965. It was the third United States Army unit to arrive. In December of 1967, the remainder of the division was deployed to Bien Hoa, South Vietnam in Operation Eagle Thrust. The 101st was the only army division ever airlifted directly into combat.
